Delivery Information | Why buy local? | Wyalusing Customers

HOME DELIVERY

Our goal for our home delivery service is to make available locally-grown dairy products and other foods from small family farmers in our area. It is true that not all of our entrees are certified organic; however, we have criteria that our producers must follow. For example, our eggs are laid by cageless, free range hens, without the use of antibiotics.

WHY BUY LOCAL?

Buy local, buy fresh is important to the very few remaining farmers in this country striving to be sustainable. Sustainable, a word that is often misused, means being able to make a living at farming and only farming. So many of our farmers today must work second jobs to make ends meet. For example, many of the folks selling their products at local farmers’ markets are not full-time farmers. They are “part-timers” with a true love for what they do, but the reality is that farming cannot support them. It is sad that we as a country have allowed foreign food into our food system at the rate that we have.

Please refer to the Trade Statistics to view the 106 foreign countries that ship dairy products of some form into this country. What are the health guidelines, farming practices (including chemical use) of the 106 counties? I am willing to guess that they do not have anywhere near the same level of health inspections that I do, yet our government welcomes cheap food into this country as free trade!

Thank you for your time. I am willing to discuss any other questions you may have about the foods we carry or some you might be looking for.

I am available by phone or email, or to talk to groups about locally produced food.
